Classroom Behavior
Students are expected to follow classroom and school rules to develop discipline, keep safety, and facilitate a healthy learning environment for all.
Positive Behavior
When students are modeling what other students should be doing or doing something particularly well, their names are written on the "happy face" on the board. At the end of the day they receive a sticker. If they get a check by their names for additional good behavior, they receive an additional reward such as a good note home, bookmark, or other sticker.
For each day that a child turns in his or her homework and is well-behaved in class, she or he will receive a sticker for the day on calendar. A month of stickers earns a "No Homework" pass. This pass is redeemable any day afterwards, so it can be saved until needed (or wanted). It may not be used in place of studying for a test or turning in a project.

Negative Behavior
Students who don't follow the rules, including disrespecting others or not following directions, are given a warning (unless the behavior is severe.) After breaking a rule again, their names are placed on the "sad face" on the board. They may miss a half recess and the problem will be written on their workshop folder calendars for that day. At the end of the month this disqualifies those students for a "No Homework Pass".
When students have conflicts with each other I will help them communicate their problems, feelings and needs with those involved. We will try to resolve the problem together. Any bullying should be immediately reported and will not be tolerated. School policy applies to bullying.

Homework
Homework is provided every night including weekends as a means to practice the skills necessary to succeed. Students should read 20 minutes each night for at least 5 days a week. Parents need to sign the log on the weekends so the children can turn it in on the first day of the week. This is required and entered into the reading grade on the report card. Some nights certain reading is assigned, and other nights the children may choose what to read. Usually math and spelling are the other assignments.
Late homework is usually accepted one day late. After that students may receive a grade but a sticker will not be put on the workshop folder. If a student develops a pattern of not turning in homework on the due date, I will consult with the student and the parents to find out how this can be rectified. Then the student will be issued appropriate consequences. Students who miss assignments due to absence are expected to do them, but will be given a reasonable amount of make-up time.

No Homework Pass
When students do all the homework and have kept the rules, they therefore have all the stickers on the calendar of the workshop folder and are awarded "NO HOMEWORK" passes at the end of the month. These passes can be used any night for the entire night's homework except for studying for a test. Passes can be saved until another month. They must be turned in on the day the homework is due.
